August 9 decleared a holiday

(UPDATE) The whole nation joins Muslims from all over the world in celebrating the end of the holy month of Ramadhan as Malacanang declared August 9, 2013 a regular holiday.

Proclamation No. 629 series of 2013, signed by President Benigno Aquino III Thursday, named Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan) “a regular holiday throughout the country.”

“Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim World for three days after the end of the month of fasting,” the document, posted on the Official Gazette, said.

August 9 has been declared a holiday in the predominantly Catholic Philippines to “promote cultural understanding and integration,” the Palace said.

Aside from Eid’l Fitr, there are two other holidays in August this year under Proclamation No. 459 released Sept. 1, 2012.

Ninoy Aquino Day, August 21 (Wednesday), is a special (non-working) holiday. August 26, the last Monday of August, is meanwhile National Heroes Day, a regular holiday.

MSU-Main's University Orientation Is On July 11, 2013

To all concerned, this is to inform you that the MSU-Main's University Orientation will be held on July 11, 2013 (Thursday Morning). I have just confirmed this information directly from our university secretary Dr. Mary Joyce Guinto-Sali. 

Now, it's already a custom of the CNSM that after the university orientation in the morning, the college orientation would follow immediately afternoon. 

So, my classes on Wednesday (July 3, '13) will not be postponed due to the said event.

June 24, '13 is Declared a Muslim Holiday

To all concerned, please be informed that the Office of the President, MSU has issued a memo declaring Monday, June 24, 2013 as a Special Non-Working Holiday in the Observance of Nisfu Sha'ban, based on the memorandum issued by the Office of the Mayor, Islamic City of Marawi.

Classes Are Not Postponed

Even with another blow of horror incident that had occurred yesterday (June 16, 2013) in our campus, the system did not release any memorandum of postponing classes. There will be classes.

We will meet tomorrow.

Nung nagbayad na ako, sabi nila may pending payment pa ako yung sa summer tuition na dinagdag sa lab (P155) and then nung pinuntahan ko sa edp and dinala ko yung receipt and sabi nila bayaran ko nalang daw kasi hindi pa raw nakakaremit yung physics dept dun sa binayad namin so ang nangyari, nakabayad ako ulit ng 155 sa UBO for that. Answer To A Question On Phys 11 Grade

First of all, I am so sorry for what had befallen you... as I do really feel sorry to all my students who flanked. But given this responsibility of teaching young students and the responsibility of being a judge over an academic subject, it is really necessary for me to be fair in giving grades. If you only knew how hard it feels, to give a high grade to the students you dislike, and give low grade to the student you like. . . It's really hard. Nevertheless, what you deserve should be given to you. 

As I had informed all of you in class that the grade would be based on the following Grading system:
60 % - Major Exams
25 % - Quizzes
10 % - Assignments
5 % - Attendance

The first thing to take note here is that the grade is not only based on Major exams. Although its gravity is big, other domains should not be neglected. Major exams do not guarantee that you would have high or passing grade. Let me give you an example.

For example, you got passing scores in the four major exams. Let's say you got 50 % in each, that is, say you have a score of 60 out of 120 items. In the grading system, that 50 % passing score in  each major exam is worth 7.5 %. ($latex 15 \times 60 \div 120 = 7.5 $)
You didn't have quizzes and assignments. And you had lots of absences (so let's say you gained 3 % in attendance).

So the computation would look like this:
7.5 % - Prelim
7.5 % - Midterm
7.5 % -  Final
7.5 % -  Comprehensive
0 % - Assignment
0 % - Quizzes
3 % - Attendance
Add all this up. The result is 33 %, which is far below 50 %. And that's failed.

This is a simple example showing that even though the major exams were all passed, the grade may still be low (or a failure in this example) due to low scores in quizzes, assignments and attendance. 

Try to check again your scores. And follow simple computation I have just described.

If you went to my office to see me, you couldn't see me really because I am not around the campus most of the time these days due to busy schedule that had befallen me. I may even be out of the country next week. 10 % - Assignments

*Note: The grades written here may not be the same with what will appear in grade card since some students submitted their assignments late. Those late assignments were not included in the computation here, but will be included soon. Thus the final grade in grade card may appear higher than what's written here.
